The brand of our happy days
Size guide
At Emile & Ida, we love clothes that leave room for movement.
Our cuts are often looser, more comfortable and slightly more generous than those of some ready-to-wear brands. It is a style choice: we design pieces that are easy to wear, that don't constrict, and that accompany the body without restricting it.

How to take your measurements
To take your measurements, use a soft tape measure and measure without pulling too tight.
- Bust
- at the fullest part of the chest
- Waist
- at the narrowest part of the waist
- Hips
- at the fullest part of the hips
To choose the best size for you
We recommend looking at four pieces of information:
-
The size advice
shown on the product page
-
The measurements
Choose your size by referring to the size chart on each product page
-
The flat measurements
of the garment, when available
-
The product description
which specifies the cut and how the model is wearing it
Our size advice for tops
For the same size, some of our pieces may therefore feel looser than those you are used to.
For example, an Emile & Ida blouse may have more ease around the bust, waist or hips. Some styles may also be deliberately shorter. These choices are part of our silhouette: poetic and comfortable.

Runs large
The product runs large. We recommend taking one size down from your usual size.
Runs small
The product runs small. We recommend taking one size up from your usual size.
Oversized fit
The product has an oversized fit: its volume is deliberately very generous, designed for a loose way of wearing it.
Take your usual size to keep the spirit of the style. If you are between two sizes, take the size down.
Relaxed fit
The product is worn relaxed. Its volume is part of the style's look.
Take your usual size to keep its natural drape, or if you are between two sizes, take the size down.
Fitted cut
The product has a fitted cut: it sits closer to the body.
Take your usual size. If you are between two sizes, take the size up.
Cropped cut
Some pieces are deliberately designed in a short length. This is not a flaw: it is a cut choice.
These styles are easily worn with high-waisted trousers or a high-waisted skirt. When this is the case, we say so in the product description and in the size advice.
Our size advice for trousers
For trousers, the size advice helps you choose the right size according to the ease of the style.
The product description then specifies the shape of the trousers: high waist, elasticated waist, straight leg, wide leg, balloon cut, fitted cut, 7/8 length…
To choose well, look above all at your waist measurement and your hip measurement.

Relaxed trousers
The trousers are worn relaxed. Check your waist measurement above all, as it is often this measurement that determines the right choice.
Take your usual size to keep the look of the style. If you are between two sizes, take the size down.
Fitted trousers
The trousers have a fitted cut. Check your hip measurement above all, as it is the most important measurement for staying comfortable in close-fitting trousers.
Take your usual size. If you are between two sizes or if you would like more ease, take the size up.
Standard trousers
The trousers follow our usual sizing. Take your usual size.
Elasticated waist
If the trousers have an elasticated waist, they naturally offer more flexibility and comfort.
You can generally take your usual size, unless otherwise indicated in the product's size advice.
For babies and children
For babies and children, the child's age is the most reliable guide. A 4-year-old child wears a size 4 years at Emile et Ida.
If your child is between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size for more comfort and so that the garment lasts longer.
If in doubt
If in any doubt, don’t hesitate to contact our team to help you find the most suitable size.
